The Camino Del Norte
The Camino del Norte is an 862km pilgrimage route along the Nothern coast of Spain ending in Santiago de Compostela in the north west of the country. In English, the Santiago de Compostela translates to the Way of St James. The route is said to have started when Christians walked from their front door to Galicia to pay homage St.James who’s body was carried there by Angels. Now, there are many camino designated routes leading to Santiago.
I’m walking the camino with my lovely friend Dawn. In a perfect world, we would walk it in a ‘oner’. However, in the not perfect real world of jobs, bills and annual leave, we walk the camino in chunks whenever we can.
This will be our fourth trip to Spain to walk the Camino. For this leg, we will start in Colunga and walk for around 8 days. After we leave Colunga and start walking the Camino, nothing is planned. If we reach our destination early or the hostel is full we might walk on. We will be staying in traditional hostels and will carry everything we don’t need to plan for accommodation or arrnaging for our bags to be transfered from one hostle to another.
