The Camino Del Norte
The Camino del Norte is an 862km pilgrimage route along the North coast of Spain.
This route is one of seven long distance routes finishing at the cathedral in Santiago De Compostella located in the north west corner of Spain.
The story goes that caminos started when Christians walked from their front door to Galicia to pay homage St.James who’s body was carried there by Angels. I guess people liked a walk then as much as they do now.
I’m walking the camino with my lovely friend Dawn. In a perfect world, we would walk it in a ‘oner’. However, in the not perfect real world of jobs, bills and annual leave, we walk the camino in chunks whenever we can.
This will be our fourth trip to Spain to walk the Camino. For this leg, we will start in Colunga and walk for around 8 days. It’s been a mission to reach Colunga; a bus, a flight and two more buses to reach Colunga. But once we leave Colunga, and start walking nothing is planned. If we reach our destination early or the hostel is full we might walk on. We carry everything we need.
