Beautiful Bude and a night in the Barrel

The cold snap is lifting and Storm Goreti has blown through. It feels like an age since we’ve been away in the van and now the temperature is above zero, we’ve packed the van and are heading to Bude.

The Park Up

Bude boasts Cornwalls only carpark where overnight camping is permitted.  The rules follow similar guidelines to the French Aires.  Vans with their own loo are welcome to stay for a maximum of 2 nights. The full sign lists the rules and regs (see below). We stayed for a Saturday night in January.

The overflow car park behind the Touriat Information Office has been designated as the overnight parking area.

The car park has loos, bins and a self service dog wash.  The park up is a short walk along the canal to the sea locks, the beach and the town centre. Please come prepared; there aren’t any facilities (fresh water, grey or black water emptying or electric hook up). Don’t let this put you off. There was also a coffee van in the corner of the car park.

Dogs Welcome

Dogs are welcome in pubs, cafes and shops through the towm. Some specialist shops have no dogs signs understandably. The vets is located at XXX  There is a pet shop im town in case you need supplies.

There are plenty of dog friendly beaches in Bude. The beach is accessible to dogs all year. Dogs are not allowed in the sea pool.  Fair enough. I need to be the best at doggy paddle !

the town and A Night in The Barrel

Bude is packed full of independent shops and places to stop for food and coffee. Abandon your car and stroll around the town.

The Barrel at the top of Landsdown Road offers a lovely welcome and some local beers.  There’s often live music at the weekend. Check the link for details. There are two pub rules; never utter the word Christmas outside the month of December and never ever get your phone out; unless you are paying for your beer. There is a fine of £1 for breaking the rules. The money goes to the local food bank.   Our plan was to pop in for one, but we stayed for four. Opening times are on the door outside.
